Business Licenses You Need When You Start a business

In general, you need at least a business license and a dba. If you sell taxable items you may need a sellers permit. Hiring employees means you need to get a FEIN AND a SEIN EMPLOYER TAX ID NUMBERS.

Keep in mind that you can also incorporate or form an llc if you want to protect your personal assets.

What is better? A corporation or a limited liability company?

To my opinion, I think limited liability company is better than corporation because it is less paper work. If there is a lawsuit in your corporation for example, you need to judge will require you to submit "minutes". Minutes means an official record of the meetings that your corporation held. As for LLC, you don't require to do that.
